Prepare the vegetables: wash the cucumbers, trim the ends, and slice them into rounds or wedges. Peel the carrots and cut them into thin circles or julienne them into strips.
Finely chop the garlic and dill. Mix the cucumbers, carrots, garlic, and dill in a deep bowl or jar.
In a separate container, mix the water with salt until it is completely dissolved. Pour the resulting brine over the vegetables so that they are fully covered.
Cover the bowl or jar with a lid (or a plate with a small weight on top) and leave it at room temperature for 12-24 hours. The longer they sit, the saltier they will become.
The prepared lightly salted cucumbers and carrots can be served as an appetizer or a side dish.
