About this recipe

Immerse yourself in the world of Japanese cuisine with these spectacular "Dragon" rolls! Their main highlight is, of course, the presentation, which transforms ordinary rolls into a true work of art. Smoked eel, artfully arranged on top, mimics the body of a dragon, with its ends creating the illusion of a head and tail. Add a touch of imagination with greens and vegetables: whiskers made from green onions or bell peppers, as well as eyes and paws cut from fresh cucumber or radish, will give your dragon a unique look. For even more beauty, sprinkle sesame seeds on its back. The filling can be anything, but in this recipe, you'll find a delicate combination of cream cheese and crispy cucumber. Prepare this dish, and it will undoubtedly impress your guests!

Preparation steps

1

Step 1

Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. Wash the fresh cucumber and green onions. Wrap the bamboo rolling mat in plastic wrap to keep it clean and easy to use.

2

Step 2

Place the rinsed rice in a small saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then simmer for 20 minutes. Afterward, remove the pot from the heat and let the rice stand, covered, for another 10 minutes to achieve the perfect consistency.

3

Step 3

While the rice is cooking, prepare the dressing: heat the rice vinegar with salt and sugar until the crystals are completely dissolved. Mix this aromatic dressing with the hot rice and let it cool to room temperature.

4

Step 4

Place a sheet of nori on the bamboo mat with the rough side facing up. Evenly spread half of the warm rice over the nori sheet, pressing it down firmly. Leave approximately 1 cm of free space at the top edge.

5

Step 5

Carefully flip the nori sheet so the rice side is down. Measure 2 cm up from the bottom edge and spread a layer of creamy cheese. Slice the cucumber into thin strips and arrange them next to the cheese.

6

Step 6

Carefully roll the sushi, lifting the edge of the bamboo mat and pressing the filling with your fingers to create a tight and neat roll.

7

Step 7

Arrange the smoked eel on the roll so that its ends extend slightly beyond the rice, mimicking the head and tail of a dragon. Cut the long roll first in half, and then each half into 4 equal pieces.

8

Step 8

Arrange the rolls in a semicircle, forming the shape of a dragon. Sprinkle the eel with sesame seeds for added flavor and texture. Use green onions to create the dragon's whiskers, and cut out eyes and paws from cucumber to give your culinary masterpiece a finished look.

9

Step 9

Serve these delightful Dragon Rolls with soy sauce to ensure every bite reveals a full spectrum of flavors.

Enjoy your meal!
