About This Recipe

The alcoholic Mojito cocktail is one of the most popular in the world. The secret of its popularity lies primarily in its fresh natural taste with bright notes of mint, lime, and rum, with moderate sweetness. It’s the perfect drink for summer. Mojito was born in Cuba, which isn’t surprising—it’s where both rum and sugarcane come from. In fact, legends say it all started with Sir Francis Drake and his sailors, who in the 16th century consumed "El Draque"—a similar drink based on rum, usually of poor quality. Not for refined pleasure, but to mask the bad taste of rum with the bright flavors of mint and lime. Additionally, lime prevented scurvy. The classic Cuban version of the cocktail came to be known as "mojito." Why? According to one theory, the name comes from the Spanish word mojar—"to wet." Another theory suggests it comes from the West African word mojo, meaning a cloth pouch containing magic spices and magical items. One could say that mojito is a little bit of magic. And few would argue with that. Most importantly, this little bit of magic is within everyone's reach!
