Wash the pumpkin, remove the skin and seeds. Cut the pulp into pieces. Place in a saucepan and add water so that it just covers the pumpkin. Add salt and cook until the pumpkin is soft.
Peel the potatoes and grate them on a fine grater or chop them in a food processor. Squeeze. Add egg and salt. Form into small dumplings.
Mash the pumpkin into a puree and bring to a boil. Add dumplings and cook for 10 minutes. Add butter, sugar and hot milk. Stir and pour into plates.
