Chrysanthemum cookies through a meat grinder — a classic recipe of Soviet cuisine. Back then, it was fascinating: you could bake beautiful "store-like" cookies at home. Especially if you didn't have special baking molds. We suggest reminiscing about childhood and baking these airy sweet chrysanthemums from shortcrust pastry. Invite the children to help you, as they might find the preparation process amusing. Be sure to chill the dough well: then it won't "spread" during baking, and the chrysanthemums will have a clear, beautiful shape.

For chrysanthemum cookies, remove the ingredients from the refrigerator in advance; they should be at room temperature. Prepare a baking tray: line it with baking paper and set aside. Mix flour, starch, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until fluffy. This will take about 5 minutes. The mixture will become lighter and airier. Add sunflower oil and beat again until ingredients combine.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating the mixture thoroughly each time. Turn off the mixer. Add the dry ingredients and knead the dough first with a spoon and then with your hand. You should get a soft plastic dough.
Do not knead the dough for a long time, this will make the cookies tough. Divide the dough into several small sausages (they need to fit easily into the hole in the meat grinder), wrap them in film and put them in the freezer for 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 180 C. Place the meat grinder next to the prepared baking sheet. Pass the dough sausages through a large mesh meat grinder. As soon as 5-7 cm of dough comes out through the cells, stop the meat grinder.
Use a knife to cut the dough, carefully supporting the resulting “flower” with your other hand. Use your fingers to pinch some of the dough at the base, forming a “bud” of chrysanthemum cookies. Place cookies on a baking sheet at a distance of 1-2 cm from each other.
Bake the cookies for 10-15 minutes until light golden brown. Cool them on a wire rack. To serve, sprinkle the chrysanthemum cookies with powdered sugar using a strainer.
