About This Recipe

Bread pudding is a dish with a rich and long history, despite the fairly simple recipe of this British "cake." Initially, thrifty English people made it from stale white bread with the addition of milk, and later they came up with baking it from flour or a pudding mix. We decided to return to the traditional recipe and prepare a budget-friendly bread pudding from stale bread, adding dried fruits, honey, and cinnamon. We ended up with a wonderfully beautiful, delicate, and delicious version of English baking. Even beginner cooks can handle making such a pudding at home.

Preparation Steps

1

Step 1

Finely chop dried fruits and marmalade. Cut the bread into slices 1.5–2 cm thick. Toast in the oven or toaster until almost dry.

2

Step 2

Whisk eggs with cream and 500 ml of milk, adding sugar or honey to taste. Grease the baking dish quite generously with oil. Dip each piece of bread into the egg-cream mixture and place it in the prepared pan, slightly overlapping, placing dried fruit or thinly sliced marmalade between the pieces.

3

Step 3

Once all the pieces are in place, pour the egg mixture into the mold, if there is any left. And add more milk if there is no liquid at all in the mold. Leave, covered with film, for 30 minutes - the bread should absorb the liquid. Check from time to time to see if more milk is needed.

4

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the uncovered pan in the lower third of the oven. Bake until bread is golden brown, about 25 minutes. Serve hot, sprinkled with cinnamon and garnished with berries.

Enjoy your meal!
