Limoncello liqueur is a strong alcoholic drink, which is mainly produced in the south of Italy. Why there? Because citrons grow in this region - citrus fruits with the most juicy, thick and fragrant peel. There are many industrial versions of this liqueur, but most Italians prefer to make it themselves at home using pure alcohol. It turns out much cheaper and definitely tastier. Moreover, there are no special difficulties in the limoncello recipe, which you can easily verify right now.

Prepare all the ingredients for Limoncello liqueur. Wash the lemons thoroughly using a stiff brush to remove the waxy layer that covers the citrus fruit. Dry well with paper towels.
Using a vegetable peeler, remove a thin layer of zest from the lemons, being careful not to touch the soft white part. Cut the fruits into halves and squeeze the juice out of them.
Transfer the zest to a clean jar. Pour in lemon juice and alcohol. Close the jar tightly with a lid, placing a sheet of foil under it. Infuse the liqueur base in a cool, dark place for a week.
Prepare the syrup. Pour water over sugar and bring to a boil. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes. Let cool. Strain the lemon alcohol infusion through 4 layers of gauze and mix with the cooled syrup. Pour into a bottle and cap. Store in the refrigerator.
