This is a simple and inexpensive dessert. They prepare halva on ordinary days, but for a Georgian wedding it’s a must.

Sift the cornmeal into a bowl through a fine sieve.
Melt the butter in a frying pan over low heat, add the cornmeal, stir with a wooden spoon and simmer over low heat until light brown, stirring frequently.
Divide the sugar in half, add one part to the frying pan, mix thoroughly.
Prepare syrup from the second part of sugar: dilute it in 375 ml of boiling water, cool slightly and pour into a frying pan.
Mix the mixture thoroughly with a spoon until smooth. You can do this with a mixer - but at the lowest speed.
When the mass has cooled, divide it into pieces weighing about 50 g, shape into balls or ovals, place on a plate, leave for a couple of hours and then serve.
