Place the chocolate chips in a glass or metal bowl and set over a pan of simmering water. Stir from time to time until the mass melts and becomes homogeneous. Remove from heat and transfer chocolate to a medium bowl.
Add sour cream and vanilla; beat with an electric mixer until a homogeneous creamy mass is obtained. If you let it cool too much, it will harden; so freeze the cake while it is still liquid or reheat before using.
