If you have a bountiful harvest of berries at your dacha, prepare a red currant liqueur using our recipe. Of course, we do not suggest our readers abuse alcohol, but you must admit, it's certainly acceptable to have a small drink of a beverage made with your own hands now and then. It is clearly tastier than store-bought ones, and also safer, especially if you carefully choose your vodka. By the way, homemade red currant liqueur also has a beautiful color, so if you serve it in a clear decanter on the table, your guests will definitely be impressed.

Prepare red currants. First of all, tear them off the branches and sort them out, removing any bruised or damaged ones. Then place in a large bowl of cold water and rinse gently.
Drain the berries in a colander. Let the water drain. Transfer the redcurrants to a table lined with paper towels in a single layer and allow the berries to dry completely.
Prepare a bottle for tincture. Wash it with any detergent and fill it with boiling water. Rinse. Pour out the water and let the inside of the bottle dry.
Pour the prepared red currants into the bottle. Add sugar. Fill with vodka and close the bottle. Shake it vigorously several times until the sugar is almost dissolved.
Place the bottle in a cool, dark place. Periodically shake the bottle of berries in vodka. After 2 weeks, the red currant tincture will be ready. Store it in the refrigerator.
