Freeze any excess berries you didn't manage to process during the summer. In winter, they'll become the base for an incredibly vitamin-rich, delicious, and beautiful compote. To enhance the aroma, add mandarin or orange slices and cook for no more than 15 minutes. Adjust the amount of sugar according to the berries' tartness, creating a perfect balance of flavor.

Prepare the ingredients: place the frozen berries in a colander without thawing. Rinse them thoroughly with cool water and allow all the water to drain completely. Wash the tangerine and peel it. Prepare a suitable-sized pot, a pitcher, and glasses for serving the compote.
Transfer the rinsed berries from the colander into the pot where the compote will be cooked.

Separate the tangerine into segments and add them to the pot with the berries to give the compote a citrus aroma.

Add the sugar to the pot with the berries and mandarins. The amount of sugar can be adjusted to your preference, depending on the sweetness of the berries.

Bring water to a boil in a kettle and carefully pour it over the berries, tangerines, and sugar in a saucepan.

Place the pot over high heat and bring the water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, proceed to the next step.

Reduce heat to medium, stirring the contents of the pot thoroughly. Simmer the compote for 10-15 minutes, until all the berries float to the surface.

Remove the pot from the heat, cover it with a lid, and let the compote steep and cool for 20-30 minutes to achieve maximum flavor and aroma.

Pour the cooled compote into a pitcher, straining out the berries if desired. Serve chilled.

For an elegant presentation, garnish the glasses of compote with thin lemon slices; this will add freshness and sophistication to the drink.
