Carefully sort through the blueberries, removing all debris, then rinse them under running water. Prepare the storage jar by sterilizing it over steam, in the microwave, or in the oven to ensure perfect cleanliness.
Pour water into a saucepan, add sugar and citric acid. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes until the syrup becomes fragrant and uniform.
Carefully place the prepared blueberries into a sterilized jar, then pour hot syrup over them. Stir thoroughly to ensure the berries are evenly distributed and saturated with the syrup.
Place the jar of compote into a large pot. Pour water into the pot until it reaches the shoulders of the jar. Place the pot over medium heat and boil for 10 minutes to ensure pasteurization.
Seal the jar tightly with the lid. Once completely cooled, store it in a cool, dark place to preserve all the flavor of the compote until winter.
